What Currency Does The Netherlands Use
Since 2002, the currency of the Netherlands has been the euro. Before the currency conversion in 2002, the Dutch guilder had been in place in the Netherlands since the 17th century. The decision to switch over from a form of currency that had been a part of the local culture for so many years was not made lightly and it took the Netherlands 7 years to sign on for the euro. Since the euro’s introduction in 1995, it has become the 2nd largest currency in the world. The euro is also one of the strongest currencies in the world and all signs indicate that it will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.
Due to the euros wide availability, tourists who visit the Netherlands will have easy access to currency exchange before they get to their destination. Banks all over the world keep a reserve of euros on hand. After your visit, any leftover euros will be easily exchanged, either on your way out of the country or once you arrive back at home.
